 Team Areola - Froz! Interview
Froz! on StarCraft

Introduction by o]SK[o:

As I landed in Palo Alto, CA, I started to wonder what kind of a person Froz was in real life. Sure, I'd seen him play SC, but Froz struck me as an all around cool kind of guy and I was thinking we'd probably go wind surfing later in the afternoon, maybe we'd go pick up some women....err, ok, so I guess I don't really have an expense budget that allows me to fly all over the globe interviewing top SC players. I think I should get one though, right? Anyway, as many of you already know I'm sure, Froz is a terran player, and a damn good one. Being the nice guy he is, he recently agreed to do an interview with us, and as I'm sure everyone is sitting on the edge of their seats at this point, here is FroZ! .

teamareola.com: What's your real name?

Froz!: My name is Tom Whittier

teamareola.com: Where did you grow up?

Froz!: I guess I'm still growing up, I live in Palo Alto, CA, right across the street from Stanford University(I don't go there btw =[ ). If you don't know where that is... it's near San Francisco.

teamareola.com: How long have you been playing SC?

Froz!: I've been playing SC for somewhere around 2-3 years, with about 1/2 that time being on hunters/blood bath/bgh.

teamareola.com: When did you start playing professionally?

Froz!: I don't really consider myself a "pro" because I don't play for a living or anything, but I guess you could say I got into seriously playing a year or so ago.

teamareola.com: What's the most BM thing anyone's ever done to you in a game of SC?

Froz!: Well, there's been so many =P. I guess what really has been pissing me off lately is koreans on gamebugs. The win won't count if the game is under 5 minutes, so clever koreans, taking advantage of this, always quit if they see a bunker rush or if they lose their scouting probe or if you take their gas etc.

teamareola.com: Where do you usually practice and play (i.e. Bnet, gamei, etc.)?

Froz!: Ah, I play almost exclusively on gamebugs now, with a few games on east with friends(basically whear + nazgul). I used to play gamei, but i switched over to gamebugs after getting hacked and disced on a few times. Although there are about 1/10th as many people on gamebugs, almost all of them provide good competition.

teamareola.com: What kind of cool places have you been too as a result of being a gosu SC player?

Froz!: Well, Korea I guess =/, it was cool to meet all these people I know online and find out they're nice irl too.

teamareola.com: What do you do when you're not playing SC?

Froz!: Hmm, normal stuff I guess. Of course I study for school, although not nearly as much as I should, and I like to chill with friends mostly. I also like to windsurf in the summer, although I do kind of suck...

teamareola.com: On average, how many hours would you say you're playing a day when you're "in shape"?

Froz!: Hmm, i play maybe 4 hours a day, 4 or 5 days a week.

teamareola.com: Do you play other games aside from SC? What sorts of games?

Froz!: Yea I play some console RPGs, and some good computer games for fun once in a while. I'm waiting for Jedi Knight 2; I really liked the first one.

teamareola.com: Do you think more people seem to choose terran now because of v1.08 balance changes or for another reason? If for another reason, what's the reason?

Froz!: Yeah a lot of people pick terran because they think they are the best. Although in the recent korean race team wars, zerg completely dominated. On gamebugs and gamei, however, u will still see mostly zerg.

teamareola.com: Awhile ago I watched a replay where you played Kenka in a TvT matchup and it came down to BCs vs BCs at 6 0'clock on temple. In that game, you slowly pushed forward with turrets/tanks and going back and forth with BCs while your opponent opted for ghosts. What would you say ultimately won you that battle?

Froz!: Hehe yea kenka is a good terran vs. terran player, you should really watch his replay vs. gundam on silent vortex, that was awesome =P. Well, what really won me that particular game is that i killed 1 of his expansions and kept it from him, so i had a 1 gas node advantage, and it was just a matter of time =O.

teamareola.com: What's the most risky TvT opening you use on a map like lost temple or neo jungle story?

Froz!: On temple, I sometimes like to tank rush with 1 tank/fast siege. It's very risky, and can be an effective strat depending on what they are doing. It's particularly good vs. koreans who go 2 fact gollie drop w/out any tanks, but isn't so good vs. early exp w/siege OR 2 port wraith. On jungle story, I learned the hard way that 2 port wraith is almost always the best build order.

teamareola.com: In your estimation, who are the best SC players in the world right now, and what makes them so good?

Froz!: I have no idea =[, probably just the korean pros everyone knows about already such as NaDa, Boxer(although he's in a slump), Chunsang, Yellow, Garimto, and Jinnam.

teamareola.com: What are your thoughts on WC3?

Froz!: Looks kinda cool, although i do have my doubts about the hero and item system... But then again, blizzard usually delivers, and I have high expectations from them.

teamareola.com: Do you think you'll play WC3 as much as you've played SC?

Froz!: Dunno depends how good it is =P

teamareola.com: So 10 years down the road when you're playing WC5, do you ever see yourself taking a break and popping in SC?

Froz!: Sure why not, for old times sake ^_^.

teamareola.com: Anything else people should know about Froz (especially for your SC groupies ;))?

Froz!: I have groupies? ^^ Well, not really... =/

teamareola.com: Feel free to add anything else you'd like people to know about you, SC, or anything else in general.

Froz!: Just like to give a shout out to my friends on bnet and real life(You know who you are! ^^) Also thanks to everyone for wasting 5 minutes of their valuable time to read this!

teamareola.com: We'd like to thank Froz! for his time and hope you enjoyed it. Be sure to check back for more interviews coming soon.
